Tracking Sharks Beyond the Light

“For once you’ve truly seen the sea, you’ll never look at Earth the same way again”

-David Attenborough

Deep Blue Research Foundation is dedicated to discovering and conserving deep-sea sharks and other elusive marine species through global, collaborative research, open science, and public engagement.

Studying the rarest sharks in the world

DBRF’s current research focuses on two ongoing field programs. In Taiwan, we are continuing long-term studies of the megamouth shark, working with local fishers and researchers to track rare individuals, document encounters, and better understand their biology and conservation needs. In the South Indian Ocean, we are actively conducting deep-sea bycatch research aboard commercial fishing vessels, documenting poorly known species and collecting critical data from animals encountered at depth.
